Community Quill Recipient - Lauren Black
HOUSTON, TX – April 12, 2026 – Cy-Fair Federal Credit Union (Cy-Fair FCU) proudly announces Lauren Black, Executive Director of Reach Unlimited, as the 2025 recipient of the Community Quill Award. The honor was presented as a surprise to Ms. Black during the opening ceremony of Reach Unlimited’s Annual Springfest event on Saturday, April 11th, where she was recognized before a crowd of clients, families, and community supporters.
Established in 2024, the Community Quill Award recognizes individuals who demonstrate a selfless commitment to making a meaningful and lasting impact in the community, which is a direct reflection of Cy-Fair FCU’s vision for writing “good” into the life stories of others. The inaugural award was presented last year to retired CFISD Superintendent Dr. Mark Henry, whose decades of service set a high bar for future honorees.
This year, Cy-Fair FCU President & CEO Cameron Dickey continued that tradition of excellence as he announced Lauren Black as the second-ever recipient.
“We couldn’t think of a better embodiment of the Community Quill Award than Lauren Black,” Dickey shared as Ms. Black, visibly surprised, stepped forward to accept the honor. “Her leadership has helped thousands of families write ‘good’ into their life stories, and that’s a legacy we are proud to recognize and award.”
As part of the presentation, Dickey shared words submitted by those who nominated Black for the award, highlighting her leadership, compassion, and unwavering dedication:
“As Executive Director of Reach Unlimited, Lauren leads with vision, compassion, and purpose. Under her guidance, Reach Unlimited has continued to expand meaningful opportunities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities—empowering them to live, work, and thrive as valued members of the community.”
“Her leadership is marked by a deep respect for every individual served, ensuring dignity, choice, and independence remain at the heart of the organization’s mission. She leads by example, listening, collaborating, and inspiring others.”
“Lauren Black’s dedication to service, ethical leadership, and community enrichment makes her an outstanding candidate for the Community Quill Award.”
Upon accepting the award, Black expressed heartfelt gratitude, sharing how meaningful it has been to serve alongside the Reach Unlimited community. She reflected on the joy of working alongside and celebrating with Reach Unlimited clients and their families, calling them “a representation of the best of our community,” and thanked Cy-Fair FCU for the unexpected honor.
Following a few quick photos with the award, Lauren Black seamlessly transitioned back into her role, kicking off the Springfest opening ceremonies and placing the focus on others—an embodiment of the servant leadership that earned her the recognition.
