Commitment to Preserving PVFCU

The remarkable tale of PVFCU spans an amazing 85 years.  Its rich history traces back to its inception in 1937, during the final years of the Great Depression, when 16 individuals started the credit union to serve the financial needs of the employees of Texas’s first state-supported college for African Americans. Today, those 16 individuals, two of whom served as Presidents of PVAMU, have their names listed in our PVFCU Legacy Hall among many others who helped shape and add new chapters to the story of PVFCU. These names are a constant reminder to us of their pioneering spirit and resiliency.

When PVFCU merged with Cy-Fair FCU, it was important to both credit unions to ensure that PVFCU’s story would continue, and its history honored. We recognize PVFCU not merely as a financial institution but as a living chronicle, deeply rooted in the stories of its surrounding community and the university.  Today, we are committed to adding new, exciting chapters to this illustrious tale, building upon the foundation laid by those industrious souls whose legacy we proudly uphold. PVFCU's story deserves celebration and preservation, and we are privileged to be a part of its ongoing narrative as stewards to ensure Prairie View Federal Credit Union’s name and legacy remain.

PVFCU Remodel

Prairie View Federal Credit Union recently unveiled its newly remodeled financial center.  With the newly modernized facility enhancements, PVFCU members will continue to enjoy a high level of hospitality service, but now with a more convenient and secure experience. The renovated space now boasts of improved private meeting rooms, a hospitality bar with refreshments, more open space allowing staff to easily walk up and greet members as they enter, and the latest in Interactive Teller technology. Even the drive-thru has been upgraded with an Interactive Teller Machine (ITM) that allows members to experience convenient face-to-face support with representatives during business hours, as well as the ability to make deposits or transfer funds through the self-serve option at any hour.

Additional PVFCU Initiatives

PVFCU is committed to deepening its engagement with the community and fostering educational advancement. A testament to this dedication is the introduction of the $1,500 PVFCU Scholarship tailored for incoming PVFCU students. Moreover, in our ongoing effort to bolster educational opportunities, PVFCU proudly presents the "Purple Card," now available to members, designed to contribute to scholarships for PVAMU students. Additionally, PVFCU is actively pursuing approval for the PVAMU "Panther Card," which, upon authorization, will join our esteemed collection of "School Spirit Debit Cards," with proceeds dedicated to furthering PVAMU scholarships.

As part of our commitment to student growth, PVFCU is thrilled to announce the launch of five new internships tailored for PVAMU students. These internships are crafted to offer hands-on experience, skill honing, and career exploration, laying a foundation for their professional journey. Furthermore, PVFCU has forged a partnership with PVAMU's athletic department, extending support in diverse ways.

To empower both community members and students, PVFCU has introduced four enriching financial workshops covering essential topics such as car purchasing, credit management, budgeting strategies, and invaluable financial insights. These initiatives underscore PVFCU's visionary trajectory and its ever-expanding impact within the community.

  • Why is PVFCU partnering with Cy-Fair FCU?

The pandemic crisis and economic uncertainties of 2020 had an adverse effect on Prairie View FCU with no signs of abating over the next few years. As the Board of Directors looked to the future, they believed that it was vital for PVFCU to be financially strong and healthy to continue helping members do the same. Additionally, the needs of PVFCU members are also evolving. With rapid changes occurring across the financial services industry, leading to new products and broader technology integration in every area, they recognized Prairie View FCU must evolve with them.

By partnering with one of the premier financial institutions in Harris and Waller Counties, PVFCU is now better equipped for the financial needs of you and your family. With Cy-Fair FCU’s focus on community, vast product/service/technology offerings, financial strength and ability to evolve to the needs of the members, close location to Prairie View, service areas that cover both Waller and Harris Counties, and willingness to help preserve and write new chapters into Prairie View FCU’s legacy, Cy-Fair FCU was an obvious choice to partner with. With this merger, Prairie View FCU will remain open and be positioned to better serve your evolving financial needs.
  • Will PVFCU maintain its name?

Both Credit Unions will continue to maintain their current identities regionally. Prairie View Federal Credit Union will continue to operate under its same name, but now as a division of Cy-Fair FCU. Note: As a member of PVFCU you are a member of Cy-Fair FCU. This means some relevant items you receive may only display the Cy-Fair FCU name.
  • Will I be able to use both PVFCU and CFFCU locations?

Yes! As a PVFCU member you are a Cy-Fair FCU member, so you may utilize any of CFFCU’s Financial Center locations, as well as take advantage of the network of nationwide shared branches.

Note: If you would like to use the nationwide Shared Branching network, you must provide your account number and state Cy-Fair FCU as the credit union to process a transaction at one of those locations.
  • What Routing Number should I use?

Continue to use the Routing Number associated with your current PVFCU account.
  • Where should I mail loan payments?

Continue to mail loan payments to the same address you have been mailing them until further notice.
